Fun Easter Yoga & Mindfulness Activities for Kids

As we head into the weekend, we wanted to wish you a Happy Easter and Passover. In our home we celebrate both, which is such a blessing. It is going to be tough not being able to celebrate with our family this weekend, but we are thanking our thoughtful leaders in Canada who have deemed the Easter Bunny an essential worker. Phew! Whether you celebrate or not, we hope you and your families are starting to get into a groove at home.

To celebrate, we've rounded up some fun Easter themed yoga & mindfulness activities you can do with your kids at home.

Read The Yoga Bunny by Brian Russo

Relax and unwind with Yoga Bunny!

It's a perfect day for yoga, and Bunny is practicing his poses and wishes his friends would do yoga with him! But Lizard is too tired, Fox is in a rush, and Bird has the hiccups. Will Bunny ever be able to get his friends to slow down and realize that yoga just might be the solution to their problems?

Yoga Bunny helps readers wind down as they learn beginning yoga poses, from downward dog to tree pose. Brilliant author-illustrator Brian Russo shows readers just how relaxing yoga can be. You can find it here.

Create a Yoga Pose Egg Hunt

I absolutely love this game by Kids Yoga Stories! All you have to is write some simple yoga poses on paper, fill plastic Easter eggs with the poses, hide & find the Easter eggs and practice the poses!

Eggshell Planters

What You Will Need:

Eggshells: hollowed out and with the top 1/3 of the shell cracked off

Knife

Cotton

Potting Soil

Small spoon

Seeds

Optional: Food coloring or paint to decorate eggshells, small jars or pots to hold the eggshell planters or cardboard and glue to make cardboard ring holders.

Directions:

Crack the egg around the top. To do this take a knife and tap the topside of the pointy end of the egg. Tap again on the other side of the pointy end. You should be able to crack only the top part of the shell off leaving the majority of the eggshell intact.

If you want to decorate your eggshells go ahead and do this step now. You can paint them with paint or dye them with food coloring, really anything.

Place a small piece of cotton in the bottom of the eggshell. This will help with draining the water.

Using the small spoon fill the eggshell with potting soil.

Make an indent in the soil and either place a few seeds, about a pinch’s worth, of your liking.

Cover the indentation with a thin layer of soil and lightly water the eggshell planter.

Place your planter in a windowsill with sunlight (the seed package should tell you whether the seeds need full or partial sunlight) and watch your plants sprout!

Practice Bunny Breath

How to:

  1. Sit on your knees like a bunny. Making sure we are sitting nice and tall.

  2. Tuck your chin in slightly and let your lower jaw relax.

  3. Get your nose ready for breathing by twitching it like a bunny.

  4. Take 4 to 6, short, quick breaths in through your nose.

  5. Breathe out through your mouth with a long, smooth sigh

  6. Repeat as needed!

Salute the Sun

Celebrate spring by saluting the sun! Practice this energizing flow outside, breathe in fresh air and feel the beautiful sunshine on your face.
